Inspired by the historical collection at Platt Hall Gallery of Costume in Manchester TELA have created contemporary textile pieces that celebrate the range of matrimonial ceremonies experienced in society today. Reflecting this variety their work ranges from hangings and wall decorations through jewellery boxes to bridal wraps and bags.

The central and essential role of textiles in TELA ís the name, taken from the Latin word for cloth or fabric.

While embroidery was the starting point of their studies TELA push the boundaries of their embroidery origins to create unexpected and fresh work. Their approaches to the application of stitch, although diverse in style, share a mutual appreciation of natural materials and integrity of design. Form, texture and fabric manipulation derived from drawing and observation is elemental in the foundations of their practice. Combined with an awareness of colour and historical context they exhibit within the ever evolving contemporary textiles world and bring the exciting potential of textiles to a wide and varied audience. Not only an exhibiting group, all members also offer workshops for a range of audiences in their personal speciality.
